What if God were contrived
by the powerful and wealthy
to keep positions and possessions
to themselves and call them
Favor
while the rest of us
treat each other
unfavorably,
convinced we are each
somehow undeserving
by birthright?
What if God were contrived
by the powerful and wealthy
to keep the rest of us
enslaved to them —
the Favored,
the Favorites —
so they could gain more
of the little we have
and do with it as
they please
but threaten us with
eternal damnation
if we don’t abide
by the rules
that make them
appear invincible?
What if God were contrived,
not non-existent,
but simply fabricated,
watered down,
lied on
by the powerful and wealthy
to keep the rest of us
from knowing the truth
about ourselves?
